Raw Cacao Maca Mocha Smoothie for Energy


A soothing combination of raspberries and cacao with an additional energetic boost from the Maca.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 punnet frozen raspberries (minimum 100g)

  • 3 Brazil nuts

  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds or linseeds (15g)

  • 2 tbsp raw cacao/carob powder

  • 1 tsp maca powder

  • 1 tbsp brown rice malt syrup/yacon syrup/coconut syrup/jaggery 200ml almond or coconut milk (possibly more)

  • Ice – 3 cubes – as available

Directions

  1. Wash the raspberries and add to a blender with the other ingredients apart from the ice.

  2. Blend until smooth.

  3. Towards the end of the process, if you want an ice-cold drink, add a small amount of ice and blend again.

Notes:

This blend enhances slow release energy in the form of low GI raspberries, with healthy fats in the form of omega 3 & 6 from the Brazil nuts and hemp seeds. Raw cacao is a strong antioxidant, which is energising, yet can have a calming effect on the nervous system and a balancing effect upon stress hormones. Maca root has the ability to nourish and stimulate the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands, both of which are involved in the production and regulation of adrenal hormones and help a person’s ability to cope with and recover from stress.
