Savoury Green Rocket Fuel Smoothie



Low carbohydrate, high in fibre, protein and micro-nutrient content especially: magnesium, folate, iron, beta-carotene, amino acids, B2, B3, B6, potassium, calcium, Omega 3 EFA. Particularly high in Chlorophyll which is alkalising, de-odourising and detoxifying. This smoothie is an excellent help towards balancing blood sugar, improve sleep, energy, joints and gut function, reduce acidity and inflammation and generally helps improve overall health and well being.

Ingredients

  • 80g Cucumber

  • 80g Spinach

  • 40g Rocket

  • 20g Kale

  • 20g Celery Stalk

  • 20g Avocado

  • 1⁄2 garlic clove

  • 5g fresh ginger, sliced with skin

  • Half fresh lemon juice

  • Pinch of Himalayan salt

  • 300 ml water (if it’s too thick you can add more)

  • 3 ice cubes


Directions

  1. If using an ordinary blending jug such as the Vita Mix or Philips, always put the water in first. If using a Nutri Bullet or similar always put the water in last. If using a Nutri Bullet you may have to divide the above ingredients in to 2, therefore, making a single serving at a time due to smaller jug size.

  2. Always wash your vegetables even if bought already washed. Discard any yellow leaves. Chop all non-leafy vegetables into cubes. The leafy vegetables may benefit from shredding (especially the kale).

  3. If using a VitaMix or Bullet all the ingredients can be placed in the blender at once and blended. If using a less powerful blender, add the water first and then blend each ingredient one after the other slowly building up the smoothie. Always place the non-leafy greens first as this helps to give the blades a grip on the ingredients.

  4. Place all the vegetables in a blender before adding the other ingredients.

  5. Blending time depends on the blender you are using. You want to achieve a creamy consistency.

  6. Pour into two glasses or consume first serving and save second serving in a glass screw-top container or thermos in the fridge for consumption the same day.


Notes:

Smoothies should be consumed immediately due to rapid degradation of micronutrient content. Always keep them in the fridge in a sealed, glass container. Drink within 8 hours.
